KUCHING: Sarawak is seeking to expand its networks and explore further cooperation with the Foreign Ministry to advance the state’s interests and aspirations at the regional and international levels.

The matter was discussed during a courtesy call by Foreign Ministry Sarawak Regional Office director Hendy Assan on State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Monday (Aug 10).

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on potential areas of cooperation and efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s international connections.

Mohamad Abu Bakar said Hendy’s extensive experience in the diplomatic service could provide valuable perspectives and international networks to strengthen relations and cooperation between Sarawak and the ministry.

He also welcomed Hendy to his new role and expressed hope that his experience would create more opportunities for Sarawak.

Hendy, a Sarawakian, assumed the position of Foreign Ministry Sarawak Regional Office director on Jul 23.

He succeeded Datuk Fenny Nuli, who is now serving as Malaysia’s ambassador to Austria.

Before his latest appointment, Hendy had served as Malaysia’s ambassador to the Holy See in Vatican City since 2023.
