KUCHING: A 57-year-old local man lost RM1.1 million after falling victim to a non-existent share investment scam offered through WhatsApp last December.
Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim received a WhatsApp message on Dec 9, 2025, at about 2pm while at his office, offering an investment scheme known as ‘FYCMAX’.
“He later joined a WhatsApp group named ‘FYCMAX VIP’ and downloaded an application linked to the scheme before communicating with several administrators.
“Believing the promised lucrative returns, the victim made 23 fund transfers into four different bank accounts, amounting to RM1,108,784.
“He realised he had been cheated after failing to withdraw the purported investment capital and profits,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping, and a possible fine upon conviction.
