KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will collaborate with Sarawak-born multi-instrumentalist, Belle Sisoski, in a genre-blending concert at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), KLCC, on April 11, as part of efforts to broaden its audience and explore new musical directions.
The concert, scheduled for 8 pm, will bring together orchestral music, traditional ethnic instruments, and electronic dance music (EDM), marking one of MPO’s more experimental performances in recent years.
The MPO and Belle will perform orchestral reinterpretations of works by renowned film composer Hans Zimmer, including music from Inception and Pirates of the Caribbean, alongside Bate’s Mothership and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, under the baton of conductor Gerard Salonga.
The programme will also feature original compositions by Belle, including Secrets, Hold On, Focus and selections from her album Ethnosphere.
The pieces will be specially arranged for orchestra by Malaysian arrangers Ilham Subri, Azhad Sulaiman, Jenny Chin, Luqman Aziz, Teuku Umar Ilany, Mac Chew and Salonga himself, blending cinematic orchestration with contemporary electronic and traditional sounds.
Audiences can expect a fusion of orchestral performance with ethnic instruments such as the rebab, sape, gambus, sompoton, engkerumong, kompang, gendang and Chinese shigu drums, highlighting Malaysia’s diverse cultural heritage.
Belle, a singer-songwriter and live-act DJ, is widely recognised for her performances that combine cinematic orchestration, electronic elements and traditional instruments, centres on reimagining ethnic sounds within modern music genres.
She composed the Malaysia Day anthem We Are Malaysia, was the first Malaysian finalist in the Commonwealth Song Contest in 2022, and was listed among Rolling Stone UK’s Best Independent Artists of 2025.
She also produced the score for the independent film Scars (2023).
The collaboration reflects MPO’s ongoing efforts to diversify its repertoire, engage new audiences, and showcase Malaysian musical talent on an international-standard stage.
Tickets are priced between RM249 and RM399, while suite seats range from RM449 to RM499 per person, inclusive of light refreshments.
Bookings can be made through the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas box office, MPO website or official ticketing channels.
