KUCHING: Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will host Iftar Perdana 2.0 at Kuching Waterfront on March 7, introducing Ramadan Glamping experience.
The event, scheduled to begin at 4.30 pm, is expected to attract between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors, depending on weather conditions and promotional outreach efforts.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the programme reflects continued commitment towards strengthening community bonds during the holy month of Ramadan.
“This initiative not only enlivens Ramadan but also fosters unity and inclusivity, allowing people from all backgrounds to gather and break fast together,” he added.
He said this at the press conference on Iftar Perdana 2026 at Rotunda, Level 4, DBKU HQ, Bukit Siol here on Friday.
“Organisers have lined up engaging activities, including a children’s colouring contest and the distribution of bubur lambuk to members of the public.
“A highlight of this year’s edition is the introduction of Ramadan Glamping, offering a glamorous camping concept beside the scenic Sarawak River,” he said.
He added that the curated tents feature modern designs, comfortable seating areas and decorative Ramadan-themed settings, creating a relaxed yet exclusive ambience for families and friends.
DBKU Mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman, said the programme supports efforts to position the city as a preferred Ramadan-friendly destination.
“Through strategic collaboration with agencies and community partners, we aim to strengthen social development while enhancing Kuching’s image as a harmonious and progressive city,” he added.
He stressed that DBKU consistently works closely with government agencies, non-governmental organisations and community associations to ensure inclusive and meaningful initiatives.
Beyond celebration, the event provides opportunities for youths to participate as volunteers, nurturing leadership qualities, responsibility and compassion for underprivileged groups.
Such involvement, organisers believe, will cultivate stronger civic engagement while reinforcing values of generosity and shared responsibility throughout the community.
The collaborative approach underscores DBKU’s commitment to advancing social, cultural and community development for the wellbeing of city residents.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend in large numbers and create meaningful Ramadan memories at Kuching Waterfront’s Iftar Perdana 2026 celebration.
