HANOVER, Germany: Argentinian tennis player, Leonardo Aboian, has been banned for six years and nine months after admitting to match fixing between 2018 and 2025, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said on Friday.
The ITIA said that Aboian, 27, was found guilty of 30 breaches and fined USD40,000 (RM156,400) on top of the ban, 25,000 of them suspended, reported German news agency, dpa.
It said Aboian, whose career high ranking is 229, admitted to fixing eight of his singles and doubles matches at lower-level ITF World Tennis Tour and ATP Challenger events.
“The player admitted to all of the ITIA charges, including facilitating wagering, contriving the outcome of events, receiving payment not to give best efforts, and failure to report corrupt approaches,” the ITIA said.
The ban starts retroactively with his provisional suspension on September 19, 2025 and runs until June 18, 2032. – BERNAMA-dpa
