TEHRAN, Iran: Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed following an attack by Israel and the United States, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

He was martyred following an attack on Saturday morning, it stated.

The Cabinet has declared 40 days of public mourning and seven days of holidays following his death.

Khamenei, born in 1939 in the city of Mashhad, served as Iran’s President from 1981 to 1989 before becoming the country’s second Supreme Leader in 1989 following the death of Ruhollah Khomeini. – BERNAMA-IRNA
