SERIAN: A 20-year-old student was arrested for allegedly possessing drugs during an operation here today.

Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said the arrest was made by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division with assistance from members of the public.

He said police seized 0.57g of suspected syabu from the suspect, who is from Kuching and currently studying in Serian.

“The suspect was arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs.

“He was also detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act after a urine test returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.”

The suspect is currently remanded to assist in further investigations.

Supt Freddy Bian advised the public not to be involved in drug abuse activities, warning that stern action would be taken against offenders, including repeat offenders.

He also urged members of the community to channel information on drug-related activities to the police to help curb the problem in the district.
