BEIJING, China: China has called for respect for the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of all nations, amid growing concerns over unilateral actions and the use of force in international affairs.
Spokesperson for the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), Lou Qinjian, said the country stressed its commitment to playing a responsible role as a major country, upholding the principles of sovereign equality, adherence to international law, and multilateralism.
“No country has the right to dominate international affairs or dictate the destiny of other countries,” he said at a press conference for the fourth session of the NPC today.
He was responding to a question about recent global tensions, including the United States and Israel’s military action against Iran and political unrest in Venezuela.
Lou also emphasised that Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity must be respected.
He called for an immediate stop to military operations, prevention of further escalation, and a resumption of dialogue and negotiations to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.
He underscored the significance of the United Nations, stating that its authority must be preserved and that reforms in global governance should be fair and equitable.
“China is ready to work with all countries to firmly uphold the authority and status of the UN, uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, practice true multilateralism, and contribute more to global governance reform,” he said. – Nurhafizah Tan/BERNAMA
