BAU: Police have launched an investigation following a viral video showing a fight during the Chap Goh Mei celebration here that has been circulating widely on social media.
Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said police received a report on the altercation, which occurred in public during the Chap Goh Mei parade.
Further investigation found that the incident happened on Tuesday (Mar 3) at around 9.30pm at a bus station, involving three men.
“Two men, age 20 and 23, came to the police station and lodged a report separately about the altercation.
“Initially, there was a misunderstanding until it escalated to a heated argument before turning into physical altercation.
“The fight was quickly brought under control. No injuries were reported and both sides have resolved the matter,” he said.
However, an investigation has been opened under Section 160 of the Penal Code for causing physical fight in public places.
Mohd Haide added that the suspects have been identified, but the investigation is still ongoing to complete the investigation paper which will be referred to the Deputy Prosecutor.
Police advised members of the public to control their emotions and behaviours when attending or participating in events in public places.
