MIRI: Police have detained a 50-year-old man suspected of stealing cash from a donation box at a place of worship in Piasau here.
The arrest followed a report lodged after the premises management discovered that money had been taken from the charity collection box on Monday (March 2).
According to investigators, the incident occurred at about 9.03 pm when a man was seen removing cash from the donation box inside the premises.
The act was captured on the building’s closed circuit television system.
Police later identified the suspect and detained him. Several items believed to be linked to the case were also seized.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
The suspect has been remanded for three days to assist with investigation.
