KUCHING: A total of 5,000 packs of bubur Asyura were distributed today (March 7)  to the public during Iftar Perdana 2.0 at Kuching Waterfront, drawing about 3,000 visitors.

The programme, organised by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) in collaboration with the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS), brought together city residents in the spirit of sharing and community during the Ramadan fasting month.

The event was officiated by Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs).

Visitors were treated to a variety of iftar dishes, including bubur lambuk, bubur pedas, bubur Asyura, traditional cakes and iftar meal packs distributed throughout the event.

The bubur Asyura distribution was spearheaded by MIS as part of efforts to share blessings and strengthen community bonds during Ramadan.

The event also featured a children’s colouring contest, with the winners announced during the programme.

The top three winners received school bags and stationery sets as prizes.

The event received support from various organisations and corporate partners.

Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd contributed 3,000 packs of traditional cakes and beverages for volunteers, staff and congregants, while Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Batu Lintang provided 1,000 packs of bubur pedas.

Meanwhile, Maggi Malaysia supplied 1,000 packs of bubur lambuk, and support was also extended by AFFIN Bank and Restoran Mahashafi through the sponsorship of dinner for attendees.

Adding a unique feature to the programme, organisers also introduced a Ramadan glamping experience around the event area, offering visitors a comfortable setting to break fast while enjoying views of the Sarawak River.

Apart from enlivening the Ramadan atmosphere in the city, the programme also served as a platform to encourage youth involvement through volunteerism and community engagement.
