KUCHING: A total of 150 children from the Samariang area were treated to a special shopping experience ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri through the ‘Program Sinaran Raya’ event held at AEON Shopping Mall here today.
The programme was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, and Deputy Minister in the Premier Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
Each child received RM200 to purchase Raya necessities during the event, which began at about 1.30 pm.
Sharifah Hasidah said the initiative, that was organised by the Samariang PBB Youth movement, is aimed at sharing the joy of the festive season with children and families in need.
“Through this programme, we bring the children out to shop for their Raya preparations and each of them receives RM200,” she said when met by reporters.
She added that the initiative has become a meaningful annual programme held during Ramadan in the lead-up to Aidilfitri.
According to her, the programme has been organised for more than two decades, reflecting the consistent commitment of the Samariang PBB Youth in supporting the welfare of the local community.
“This programme has been carried out for 21 years and it has become something the community looks forward to every Ramadan,” she said.
She also commended the Samariang PBB Youth movement for sustaining the initiative over the years.
“It shows that the PBB Youth movement and the party at the branch level are truly concerned about the welfare of the community, especially children, so that we can share the happiness of celebrating Aidilfitri together,” she said.
