KUCHING: The shopping centre is buzzing with visitors hunting for Hari Raya Aidilfitri essentials, from colourful clothes and accessories to festive treats, as shoppers enjoy the lively atmosphere. With Hari Raya around the corner, Plaza Merdeka has set up 34 Raya-themed stalls selling everything from traditional and modern baju kurung to abaya, tudung, and outfits for kids, while also extending its opening hours—until 11 pm from March 9 to 15 and until midnight from March 16 to 19—giving everyone more time to explore the festive offerings. Sarawak Tribune spoke with several vendors at the bazaar, who shared their thoughts on joining the event this year and the response from visitors.

This is our first time joining Plaza Merdeka’s Raya bazaar, and the response from visitors has been lively so far. We have sales every day, and overall the response has been really encouraging. At our stall, we sell Raya clothing mainly for adult women. We have a variety of designs such as abaya, baju kurung, modern kurung and viscose batik. We also sell tudung, mostly bawal, including plain bawal, beaded bawal and selendang. Our items range from RM5 to RM219 across our selection of accessories and clothing, offering something for all budgets. If there is another event like this in the future, we might join again because it is nice to interact with visitors and other vendors. The lively crowd makes it a fun experience.

At our stall, we sell clothing for children from three months old up to 12 years old. We offer different styles of baju kurung, including dress-style kurung and modern baju kurung. This is my first time joining an event at Plaza Merdeka, although we usually take part in bazaars at other locations. This year, we have been selling at several places, including Hikmah Exchange, Majma, Plaza Merdeka, and Satok, which has given us the chance to reach different shoppers and see how crowds respond at each venue. Sales here have been very good this year. Many people are looking for clothes from our stall, and the prices are affordable, ranging from RM49 to RM99. Families often browse together, picking matching outfits for children or gifts for relatives, which adds to the cheerful atmosphere. If there is another event like this next year, we would consider joining again because the response has been positive.

I have been joining the Plaza Merdeka bazaar for about three years. At our stall, we sell baju Melayu and kurta for both children and adults. For children, the clothing is available from one year old up to 12 years old. The response from visitors has been very good. We are the only stall here selling children’s baju Melayu, so many people come here to buy them. The prices at our stall range from RM79 to RM199. If the event is held again next year, I would definitely join again.
