KUCHING: The Madani government is intensifying efforts to lighten the people’s burdens, while fostering the Ramadan spirit and supporting the less fortunate this Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said ongoing global geopolitical developments, particularly the conflict in West Asia, could have direct repercussions on Southeast Asia.

These include rising oil prices, higher costs of goods, increased living expenses, and broader economic pressure.

Despite these challenges, he assured that the government will continue working to ease the burden on the rakyat, while calling on all Malaysians to share the responsibility of upholding the values of Ramadan and caring for those in need.

“As we approach Hari Raya Aidilfitri amid ongoing global developments, especially in West Asia, we must remain vigilant and resolute.

“We must uphold the spirit and teachings of Ramadan, complete our worship with sincerity, and celebrate Aidilfitri in moderation, while remaining mindful of the struggles faced by others, both at home and abroad,” he said.

He delivered the message in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 special address on thursday night (19 March).

Anwar added that with proper planning and preparation, Malaysia can remain resilient and optimistic, supported by the economic progress achieved in recent years.

“As the MADANI government, we will continue to defend and strengthen this position with patience and determination.

“On this day of victory, let us renew our commitment to the Malaysia MADANI agenda – upholding human dignity, ensuring justice, defending core values, and safeguarding the nation’s prosperity and security,” he said.

He also highlighted the deeper meaning of fasting during Ramadan, noting its role in shaping character and freeing individuals from self-deception.

“We are deeply grateful to Allah SWT for the opportunity to complete the Madrasah of Ramadan, and to nurture a personality where good morals and conduct become the fruits of our worship.

“The purpose of fasting, as emphasised by scholars such as Imam Al-Izz ibn Abd al-Salam, carries profound wisdom and clear objectives.

“Ramadan serves as a spiritual school that builds inner strength, shapes character, and frees us from self-deception through continuous spiritual struggle.

“Therefore, we pray that the lessons of Ramadan remain embedded in our hearts and continue as a lifelong practice,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that the values cultivated during Ramadan must be continuously renewed to strengthen the people’s resolve, enabling the nation to move forward with confidence.

He also urged Malaysians, especially Muslims, to uphold traditions such as visiting one another, strengthening relationships, and hosting open houses during the festive season, welcoming people from all backgrounds.

“Our nation is built on diversity, and these practices are part of our national culture.

“In a world filled with differing views and challenges, the true strength of our nation lies in unity of the heart – unity in understanding and unity in action – to preserve harmony and togetherness,” he said.
