KUCHING: A 37-year-old man has been arrested for suspected involvement in a housebreaking and theft case at a residence in Jalan Bukit Mata here.

Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrest was made at about 1.35 am on yesterday (Mar 30), at the location where the incident allegedly occurred.

“Preliminary urine screening of the suspect also returned positive for drugs.

“Following the arrest, a remand application was submitted and granted for seven days until Apr 6, to facilitate further investigations,” he said in a statement.

Alexson added the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft, which provides for imprisonment of up to 14 years, and may also include fine or whipping upon conviction, especially for repeat offenders.

Police also reminded members of the public to avoid involvement in criminal activities and urged those with information related to crime to contact the Kuching IPD Control Centre at 082-244444.
