DARO: The RM15-million Permanent Farmers’ Market (PTK) under construction here is expected to become a new attraction while providing improved daily trading facilities for local vendors.

Daro assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad said the project aims to provide more comfortable facilities for local traders, while allowing them to operate daily instead of only on weekends as before.

“The concept of this PTK is somewhat similar to Kubah Ria. This new Permanent Farmers’ Market will house traders selling a variety of fresh goods, including vegetables, fish and other local products from the area.

“One of its main objectives is to provide a larger and more comfortable space for traders, while enabling them to conduct business daily without worrying about sales locations,” he told reporters at the Daro DUN Service Centre.

He added that the construction of the market is also expected to turn the town into a focal point for visitors from outside, who come to purchase fresh produce and local products.

“I believe this farmers’ market will become a central hub, as visitors can obtain a wide range of necessities in one place.

“To ensure there is no traffic congestion, we will also make sure there is sufficient parking space, providing greater convenience for visitors to this fresh produce centre,” he said.

In addition, he noted that the construction of the Daro Waterfront, approved at a cost of RM35 million, will be a key attraction.

Dr Safiee said the waterfront is specially designed to cater to all segments of society, including youths, the elderly, adults and children.

“We have also taken into account the needs of traders, while providing facilities for recreational and exercise activities.

“We are developing it in a unique way because we want it to become a focal point not only for local residents but also to attract visitors from outside Daro. That is our goal,” he said.
