KUCHING: National mixed doubles duo, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, continued their composed run at the Badminton Asia Championships, advancing into the quarter-finals after a straight-sets victory over India’s Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto in China today (April 9).
The world no.4 pair established early authority, dictating tempo and structure in the opening game to secure a 21-13 win, reflecting their control in both front-court exchanges and mid-rally transitions.
The second game unfolded in tighter fashion, with the Indian pair applying pressure through sharper exchanges and forcing a nervy start from the Malaysians. A series of unforced errors briefly disrupted momentum, but Tang Jie–Ee Wei steadied themselves, reasserted their rhythm and closed out the contest with a 21-14 finish.
With the win, the duo stand as the only mixed doubles representatives remaining in the Malaysian contingent, underlining their role as the nation’s primary standard-bearers in the discipline at the championships.
Earlier, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai exited the competition after an intense three-game battle against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Cheng Kuan-Hsu Yin Hui, while Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were halted by China’s Guo Xin Wa-Chen Fang Hui in the Round of 16 match-up.
