BETONG: Bukit Saban is set for accelerated development under a comprehensive plan aligned with Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, with major investments in healthcare, skills training, utilities and rural infrastructure.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the initiative aims to raise incomes through tourism development, modern agriculture, economic activities and human capital enhancement in the constituency.

“By 2030, Bukit Saban will witness economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability through comprehensive and structured planning aligned with PCDS 2030,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Apr 9) following his visit to the Tanjung Sebekut bridge construction site on Wednesday.

Among the key projects is the RM35 million upgrading of the Spaoh Health Clinic, implemented through collaboration between the State Health Department and the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), which is currently in the tender stage.

He said the project is expected to strengthen access to healthcare services for local residents and improve overall community wellbeing.

Uggah added that youth skills development is also being prioritised through the newly completed GiatMara Spaoh Centre, which will begin student intake in July.

The centre will offer courses in clothing and fashion tailoring as well as electrical wiring, helping equip local youths with relevant technical skills for employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, repair works on the BDDA office are progressing smoothly and are expected to be completed by September.

Allocations have also been approved for electricity supply connections worth RM3.5 million and water supply connections worth RM3 million to houses in Tanjung Sebekut.

During the visit, Uggah also handed over 32 approval letters for Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects worth RM5 million for the Bukit Saban constituency to improve infrastructure and community facilities.
