SRI AMAN: Infrastructure development efforts in Sri Aman are set to continue, with plans to extend the waterfront to the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge and develop green zones across the area.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the initiative aims to attract both visitors and locals while enhancing the town’s appeal.
“This will become a green corridor, developed all the way to the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge, and of course, strategic buildings will also be established in that area,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Lingga State Constituency Economic Forum 2026, held at the Sri Aman Civic Centre here today (Apr 12).
He added the current Sri Aman Civic Centre will be redeveloped into a modern facility to host seminars, forums and community activities.
“This civic centre is already old, dating back to my time as a minister. The people of Sri Aman want a new hall, and I agree—we should build a new, advanced facility equipped with the latest technology and demolish the existing one,” he said.
Abang Johari said that upon completion of the extension, the area will become an iconic symbol of modern Simanggang, complementing its existing heritage elements.
“With the new bridge in place, it will also become a new commercial centre.
“With improved infrastructure that can attract visitors, people will come to shop and enjoy the beauty of Simanggang,” he said.
He added that travel time from Kuching to Sri Aman will be reduced to about an hour, making it more accessible for both tourists and locals to visit the area.
“For those who want to enjoy ikan bulu, come here—this will help boost economic activities,” he said.
