KUCHING: An Aidilfitri gathering in Kampung Temenggong brought hundreds of residents together on Saturday night to celebrate tradition while strengthening community ties.

The event, held at the village multipurpose hall, highlighted the spirit of unity among residents and community leaders, in line with the Malaysia Madani and Sarawakku Sayang concepts.

Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Minister for Women, Family and Community Development and Santubong MP, graced the occasion, adding to the lively celebration.

In her speech, she commended the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and local youth groups for their continued commitment to preserving meaningful community traditions.

“These initiatives play an important role in strengthening community bonds and empowering families, which remain the foundation of a strong and caring society,” she said.

She also highlighted the importance of community support in enhancing family institutions and social welfare efforts within the Santubong parliamentary constituency.

Meanwhile, Kampung Temenggong community leader Falehi Bujang described this year’s celebration as particularly meaningful.

He said that it not only marked the end of Ramadan but also served as a platform to showcase local cultural identity.

“The use of traditional attire and Sarawak-themed decorations helped reflect the rich heritage of the community,” he added.

The annual event remains a meaningful platform to instil community values among the younger generation, while strengthening ties between residents and government agencies.
