KUCHING: Education remains a powerful driver of societal progress, with leaders highlighting its transformative role in shaping future generations and strengthening communities across Sarawak.
Kapitan Datuk Lau Sie Lok stressed that education is essential in cultivating talent capable of uplifting communities and contributing to long-term development.
“Education can change people’s destiny, shaping not only their future but also the progress of entire communities and generations,” he said, underscoring its far-reaching impact.
Lau, who leads both the Kuching Padawan Foochow Association and Simpang Tiga Community Association, highlighted Sarawak’s free education policy for medical and law studies as transformative.
“We firmly believe that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, education will become a key force driving social progress into betterment,” he said confidently.
He noted that in the past, many capable students were unable to pursue medicine and law due to financial constraints, resulting in significant loss of potential talent.
“However, with this policy, more students will have the opportunity to receive professional training and grow into skilled individuals who can serve society,” he added.
Lau said the healthcare sector stands to benefit greatly, as more locally trained doctors would improve medical coverage and service quality across both urban and rural areas.
“Increasing the number of local doctors will ensure better healthcare access, especially for those living in remote areas who often face limitations,” he explained.
He added that the legal field would also see positive transformation, with more trained professionals strengthening access to fair, affordable, and efficient legal services statewide.
“Law is not only the foundation of social order but also a tool to safeguard people’s rights, and more professionals will enhance justice delivery,” he emphasised.
Lau stressed that investing in education today lays the groundwork for Sarawak’s long-term prosperity, stability, and inclusive growth, benefiting future generations across all sectors.
“While education inspires hope, it is through talent that the future is built, and we must continue strengthening this policy for lasting impact,” he said.
