Work closely with state government, Wan Junaidi urges SAA

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar wants to see continued close cooperation between legal practitioners and the state government, as both parties work towards improving justice delivery and public well-being in Sarawak.

In this respect he expressed appreciation for the Sarawak Advocates Association’s (SAA) commitment to strengthening the legal profession and upholding the state’s legal system.

Wan Junaidi made these remarks following a courtesy visit from the SAA at Astana Negeri here today, as part of ongoing engagement with the legal fraternity.

Also present during the visit was his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

The SAA delegation was led by its president Gurvir Singh Sandhu, with State Attorney General Datuk Seri Safri Ali also present.

During the meeting, various matters relating to the development of the legal profession, strengthening the state legal system, and ongoing efforts to uphold the rule of law were discussed.

Wan Junaidi also shared his experiences and achievements during his service as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) in 2021, and emphasised the importance of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) being fully understood by the public.

The meeting also highlighted expectations that the Legal Reform Committee will serve as a catalyst for a more progressive and effective transformation of Sarawak’s justice system.

Also present were SAA Vice President (Sibu) Timothy Lim Teng; Vice President (Miri) Lee Jin Wen; Vice President (Kuching) Liew Tang Chieh; Vice President (Bintulu) Janting Antalai; Honorary Secretary Christine S. H. Lim;  Honorary Treasurer Kay Ting Huong Kheng;  Assistant Treasurer Alan Bong Kit Khoon; and Central Committee Member Rozy Tijan Robinson.
