KUCHING: Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd (BPHB) has delivered a total shareholder return of 433 per cent over the past 25 years, reflecting strong financial resilience and a consistent dividend policy.
Its Chairman, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, said since its listing, the group has distributed RM2.4 billion in dividends, equivalent to RM5.26 per share, while its share price has risen from RM2.00 at initial public offering (IPO) to RM5.40 – a 170 per cent increase.
Of this, he said more than RM802 million has been returned as dividend disbursed directly to the state government through the State Financial Secretary.
“These figures stand as a testament to our enduring commitment to generating long-term value for our stakeholders and the people of Sarawak. We are proud to have maintained a consistent dividend policy that reflects both our financial resilience and the trust our shareholders place in us,” he said.
He made these remarks during the BPHB 30th anniversary dinner on Tuesday evening (April 14).
Abu Bakar said BPHB’s responsibility extends beyond financial returns as they believe that when ports grow and industries thrive, jobs are created and communities prosper, which is the conviction that shapes how BPHB build its organisation from within.
He said this is why BPHB champions a leadership culture defined by merit and diversity.
“Today, three women serve on our board of directors, with many more across our senior leadership and managerial ranks. This is a deliberate reflection of our belief that diverse leadership builds a more resilient and innovative organisation.
“In the same spirit, we significantly expanded our employee training and upskilling initiatives in 2024, investing in our people at every leave of the organisation,” he said.
At the same time, Abu Bakar said the Bintulu Port Scholarship programme continues to nurture the next generation of Sarawakian talent, ensuring that the legacy built today is carried forward by capable hands tomorrow.
“Our sense of responsibility extends well beyond our gates. Through Yayasan Bintulu Port, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the communities we serve.
“These includes the Anjung Kasih YKN at Bintulu Hospital, partnership with North Kuching City Council (DBKU) on Taman Botani’s Multipurpose Stage Project, the Bintulu Port Prihatin Programme and the KomunitiKuSayang project,” he said.
Abu Bakar also said that BPHB has contributed RM3.2 million in business zakat for 2026 to Tabung Baitumal Sarawak, which was witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“All of this is done in the spirit of shared responsibility because we believe that Bintulu Port’s growth must carry real meaning for the people and communities around us,” he said.
