KUCHING: The ‘Tautan Harmoni Gong Xi Aidilfitri 2026’ celebration organised by i-CATS University College successfully brought together people from various backgrounds in a spirit of goodwill and harmony.
The event, held at the university on Tuesday (AprIL 14), was graced by the presence of the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Vice-Chancellor of i-CATS University College, Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, said the celebration was not merely a festive gathering but also a platform to strengthen ties among Sarawak’s multi-ethnic communities.
“The theme ‘Tautan Harmoni’ is not just a name but reflects who we are as Sarawakians – rich in cultural diversity yet able to come together, share joy and celebrate unity,” he said in his welcoming address.
He added that the combined celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Chinese New Year carries deeper meaning in fostering a sense of family and unity.
“Aidilfitri teaches us about forgiveness and valuing relationships, while Chinese New Year symbolises hope and new beginnings.
“When these two spirits are combined, they create an atmosphere that unites us as one family,” he said, adding that such events are important in strengthening social interaction beyond formal work settings.
“In our busy daily lives, we rarely have the chance to pause, greet one another and strengthen relationships. Platforms like this allow us to reconnect and renew our bonds,” he said.
He also emphasised that i-CATS is not only committed to academic excellence but also to nurturing a community grounded in mutual respect and understanding.
As a symbol of unity, the event featured various cultural performances, including dances by the i-CATS Performing Arts group, singing performances, and a ‘Harmony through Calligraphy’ segment.
The highlight of the event was the ceremonial cutting of yellow glutinous rice, symbolising gratitude and togetherness, followed by the presentation of a token of appreciation to Wan Junaidi.
