MIRI: A person is feared to have been trapped inside a vehicle that was completely gutted by fire following a collision with a lorry on Jalan Miri By Pass on Friday morning.
Emergency services were alerted at 9.31am, with firefighters from the Lopeng station arriving to find both vehicles ablaze. The sport utility vehicle was already fully engulfed, while the lorry’s front section had been destroyed by the fire.
Fire and Rescue Department officials said there were reports of an occupant still inside the SUV as the flames took hold, although the number of victims and their identities have not yet been confirmed.
Crews moved quickly to contain the fire, deploying a hose line from their engine to bring the blaze under control.
A separate heavy vehicle was later used to pull the lorry clear of the scene to prevent further risk.
Seven firefighters were involved in the operation, supported by a fire rescue tender and an emergency medical rescue services unit.
The cause of the crash has yet to be established, and authorities have not released details on casualties.
