KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Desa Ilmu Lake Park upgrading project has reached 97.86 per cent completion and is set to emerge as a new recreational hub.
Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said the project, funded by the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA), aims to improve visitor comfort as the park remains a popular spot, especially in the mornings and evenings.
She said key upgrades include improved recreational tracks, new toilets, a grandstand, and landscaping elements incorporating Samarahan’s identity, including the ‘perahu tambang’ concept.
“This concept not only beautifies the area but also gives Desa Ilmu Lake Park its own distinct identity as a premier recreational location in Samarahan,” she said when met by UKAS on Friday.
Rubiah added that beyond recreation, the park is expected to spur economic activity through opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
She revealed that a proposal to develop commercial stalls at the Jalan Desa Ilmu junction is in the pipeline, with an estimated RM2 million allocation for the first phase.
“This development not only has the potential to generate income for residents but is also capable of revitalising the local economic ecosystem in line with the rapid development in Desa Ilmu,” she said.
She added that cleanliness, safety, and comfort will remain priorities to ensure the park continues to be a well-managed, safe, and competitive community destination.
