KUCHING: Safeguarding unity and rejecting racial or religious division remain critical to preserving Sarawak’s stability and development amid external influences that could disrupt long-standing social harmony.
Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said Sarawak’s strength lies in its long-standing culture of peaceful coexistence among its multi-ethnic and multi-religious communities, which sets the state apart from many other regions.

“In other places, differences are often highlighted. But in Sarawak, we choose unity, togetherness and development,” he said when attending the Kampung Rantau Panjang Aidilfitri gathering on Saturday night (April 18).
He cautioned the public against allowing outside elements to undermine the state’s social cohesion.
“We must safeguard this unity. Do not allow racial or religious sentiments to divide our community,” he stressed.
Ahmad added that the spirit of being Anak Sarawak should continue to be strengthened among all residents, including those who have chosen to live and contribute to the state.
He also commended Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian for ongoing development efforts in Batu Kawa and surrounding areas, including Kampung Rantau Panjang, citing improvements in infrastructure, public facilities and community wellbeing.
He further described grassroots leaders, including village heads and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), as the backbone of local unity and programme implementation.
Highlighting the significance of Aidilfitri, he said the celebration serves as an important occasion to promote forgiveness, reflection and stronger community ties.
The gathering drew strong attendance from residents and community leaders, reflecting continued community support for unity-focused initiatives at the local level.
