SARIKEI: Sarikei Hospital has strengthened healthcare access across central Sarawak over the past two decades through continuous upgrades in facilities, expertise and service delivery since its establishment.

Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Sarikei Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, said the hospital’s 20th anniversary marked a significant milestone in improving treatment quality and expanding access to healthcare services for communities in the region.

“Over the past 20 years, various improvements have been carried out, including upgrades to physical facilities, strengthening of expertise and enhancements to service delivery systems.

“Sarikei Hospital not only provides treatment but also serves as a backbone of local community development and a catalyst for transformation in the healthcare sector,” he said when officiating the hospital’s 20th anniversary celebration here on Saturday (April 18).

He stressed that equitable access to quality healthcare must continue to be strengthened for all communities regardless of location or background, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI and Sarawak’s inclusive development agenda.

Huang said ongoing initiatives to reduce development gaps between urban and rural areas also prioritised improving access to healthcare facilities, particularly in regional divisions.

He also expressed appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the state government’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding service coverage statewide.

He added that Sarikei Hospital was expected to continue playing a key role in advancing healthcare transformation through service digitalisation, strengthened medical expertise and a more resilient healthcare delivery system in the years ahead.
