MIRI: Senior state officials have moved into the final phase of preparations for the ‘Sarawakku Sayang 2026’ programme here, with organisers working to complete key infrastructure days before the event opens later this week.

State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, carried out a site inspection at Stadium Miri today, assessing overall readiness ahead of the three-day programme scheduled from April 24-26.

The visit signals a push to ensure the event, one of the largest public engagement initiatives in northern Sarawak this year, runs smoothly amid expectations of a strong turnout.

At the venue, preparations are entering their final stretch. Work on the main stage is nearing completion, with crews installing lighting and sound systems, while exhibition spaces involving multiple government agencies are being finalised.

Organisers said the layout has been designed to balance accessibility with crowd control, as authorities prepare for an estimated 20,000 visitors over the three days.

Particular attention is being given to the movement of visitors, with entry and exit routes mapped out to minimise congestion, especially during peak periods such as the official opening.

Facilities including parking areas, public restrooms and support infrastructure are also being readied, alongside safety measures aimed at ensuring a secure and orderly environment.

Across the stadium grounds, contractors and technical teams were seen working against the clock, assembling structures, setting up exhibition tents and completing system installations in what officials described as the final phase of execution.

The programme is expected to draw visitors from across Miri Division, including Baram and Sibuti, as well as neighbouring Bintulu and Brunei.

The official opening is scheduled for April 25 and will be officiated by Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Also present during the inspection were Deputy State Secretary (Administration), Datuk Felicia Tan; Miri Resident, Galong Luang; and Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) Director, Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan.

With only days remaining, officials said preparations are largely on track, with remaining work focused on final adjustments.

The programme is part of the state government’s broader effort to strengthen public engagement and bring services closer to the community.
