KUCHING: A single mother was fined RM8,000 by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to possessing unregistered pharmaceutical products in December 2024.
Judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar imposed the fine on Crystal Oon Ming Hsia, 40, with a default sentence of three months’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
The offence was framed under Regulation 7(1)(a) of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, punishable under Regulation 30(1) of the same regulations and Section 12(1) of the Sale of Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM25,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both.
Oon, who had no previous convictions, admitted to the charge when it was read before the court.
According to the charge, she was found in possession of three unregistered products at an aesthetic clinic near Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha, at about 10:30 am on December 10, 2024.
The items were identified as DHNP Vitamin C Injection (Ascorbic Acid 10g/20ml), Luthione Injection 1200mg (Glutathione (Reduced) 1200mg), and Cindella IV Injection (Thioctic Acid 25mg/5ml).
In mitigation, Oon, who was represented by a defence lawyer, pleaded for leniency, telling the court that she was remorseful and promised not to repeat the offence.
She also informed the court that she is a single mother with two young children and is the sole breadwinner supporting her family.
The court was also told that she had no prior criminal record.
The unregistered products were ordered to be forfeited and disposed of in accordance with the law.
