Two men fined for self-administering dangerous drugs

KUCHING: Two men were fined by separate Magistrates’ Courts here today (Apr 24) after pleading guilty to self-administering dangerous drugs.

In the first case, Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu fined 38-year-old Alex Ong Chia Chong RM3,000, in default nine months’ imprisonment, after he admitted to the offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The court further ordered him to undergo police supervision for two years upon completion of his sentence in accordance with Section 38B of the same Act.

According to the facts of the case, the offence was committed on November 11, 2025 at about 12:55 pm at the Padawan Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) office.

The police team arrested the accused and escorted him to undergo a drug test. Initial screening of his urine sample returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

A subsequent laboratory analysis by the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital confirmed the presence of both substances.

He was then charged for self-administration of dangerous drugs.

Deputy Public Prosecutor, Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, prosecuted the case while the accused is unrepresented.

In a separate case, Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali fined Syafiq Suradiman, 36, RM2,600 in default six months’ imprisonment, for a similar offence.

Syafiq also pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The offence was committed on December 7, 2023 at about 12:02 am at the Kuching District NCID office where the police arrested the accused and escorted him for a drug test.

Initial urine screening showed positive results for methamphetamine and amphetamine. Laboratory analysis conducted by the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital later confirmed the findings.

A police report was subsequently lodged in connection with the incident.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly.

The accused was unrepresented.
