KUCHING: Rakan Sarawak Destiny Movers (RSDM) is expanding its mental health programmes following the success of its workshops in Bintulu and Miri by improving its programmes and introducing new content.

In a statement by RSDM today (April 29), its workshops continue to demonstrate that combining mental health awareness with practical skills and experiential learning can empower individuals to become everyday “first responders” for mental well-being.

The Bintulu workshop, ‘Unmask the Mind to Thrive and Flourish’, attracted more than 90 participants from schools, technical institutions, and universities, fostering confidence in applying tools such as the ALEC model (Ask, Listen, Encourage, Check-in), grounding techniques, and emotional literacy.

Meanwhile, the HOPE Workshop in Miri further strengthened this momentum, with participants praising the facilitators for their clarity, inclusiveness and inspiration, while also calling for more interactive activities in future sessions.

Survey findings showed that more than 90 per cent of participants gained stronger confidence, practical coping strategies, and motivation to build psychologically safe environments.

Many also reported improved ability to recognise early signs of emotional distress and provide initial support before professional intervention is required.

The workshops incorporate storytelling, arts-based reflection, and interactive activities such as Flip the Script and Safety Net Web, making them relevant to youth, families and professionals.

The initiative has also received strong support from local institutions, sponsors and facilitators, reflecting a broader commitment to reducing mental health stigma in Sarawak.

RSDM said upcoming workshops will feature new modules, deeper exploration of sensitive topics, and greater opportunities for participants to connect, learn and lead.

To complement its programmes, the organisation will also launch the RSDM Magazine, which will offer practical tools, myth-busting insights, book reviews, and first-person perspectives on topics including workplace neurodiversity, digital hygiene, and rural mental health.

The publication is intended to serve as a long-term reference for communities, ensuring that knowledge gained during workshops continues to be applied beyond the sessions.
