KUCHING: Members of the public can access free traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) consultations and wellness services at a community health programme in Demak Laut this Sunday (Aug 30).
The programme, jointly organised by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bako Branch and Zhengkang Traditional Medicine and Complimentary Centre, will be held from 9 am to noon at Great Day Food Court, Jalan Bako, Demak Laut Commercial Centre.
Organising committee chairman Simon Kho said the initiative would bring a range of TCM services directly to the community while giving participants an opportunity to learn more about traditional approaches to health and wellness.
“We want members of the public to come and experience the benefits of TCM health maintenance and wellness care,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 25).
Kho said the services available would include blood pressure checks, TCM health consultations, tuina therapeutic massage, cupping, gua sha and acupuncture.
He explained that the different therapies offered were intended to address various aspects of general wellness, with tuina massage used to relieve muscle fatigue and improve blood circulation, while cupping and gua sha were among the traditional therapies used to ease bodily discomfort.
Acupuncture, meanwhile, would be administered following diagnosis and under the guidance of licensed professional TCM practitioners.
“In addition to the health services, we will also distribute free cooling herbal tea on-site so that those attending can stay refreshed amid the hot and hazy weather,” he said.
SUPP Bako Branch chairman and programme advisor Bong Nam Kee said the programme was organised as a community initiative to give back to society, spread goodwill and deepen public understanding of TCM wellness and health management.
He said the involvement of professional practitioners was particularly important in ensuring that members of the public could obtain relevant health information and advice during the programme.
“We hope that through the services provided by professional TCM practitioners and our dedicated team, more members of the public will gain useful health information and professional advice,” he said.
Bong also expressed appreciation to Great Day Food Court owner Raymond Liaw for providing the venue and to the SUPP Kuching Branch for organising and mobilising youth volunteers to assist during the event.
He said the cooperation among the organisers, practitioners, volunteers and local community reflected the programme’s broader aim of making health and wellness information more accessible to the public.
The three-hour programme is open to members of the public free of charge.
