GEDONG: Gedong is set for a major development push with several projects planned to expand economic activity and strengthen the area as a focal point for the local community.

Special Representative to Gedong assemblyman Datuk Seri Naroden Majais said the planned developments include a new district-level mosque, an administrative centre and a housing development comprising about 100 units.

He said the projects would improve residents’ access to public facilities while creating new opportunities for economic activities around Gedong.

“A new mosque will be built across from Kampung Lalang Mayak. Once the bridge and mosque are completed, we will have closer access to these facilities,” he said when speaking at the closing ceremony of the Gedong District Maulidur Rasul 1448H/2026M celebration at Masjid Al-Kawthar Gedong here today (Aug 25).

Meanwhile, Naroden said this year’s Maulidur Raul celebration is held on a modest scale due to high Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in the Serian area, which also affected Gedong.

He advised the public to remain mindful of air quality and prioritise their safety, particularly those with health conditions such as asthma and breathing difficulties.

Despite being held on a smaller scale, he said the celebration continued to provide an opportunity for the community to strengthen ties and cooperation among members of mosques, suraus and villages throughout Gedong.
