KUCHING: The Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang Bridge has etched its name in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) after securing three national records for its distinctive three-legged cable bridge design.
The RM50.6 million bridge, which features a three-legged pylon towering over Sungai Bintangor, was recognised as the First Three-Legged Cable Bridge in Malaysia, Longest Three-Legged Cable Bridge in Malaysia and Tallest Three-Legged Cable Bridge in Malaysia.
The certificates for the three achievements were presented during the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak Appreciation Ceremony at a hotel here yesterday (Aug 24) in the presence of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
“The recognition reflects the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to providing innovative, functional and high-quality infrastructure for the people,” said PWD Sarawak in a statement today (Aug 24).
The three-legged pylon design, which is the bridge’s defining feature, also highlights its unique cable arrangement and architectural form, making it not only a vital link but also a new landmark in Kuching’s cityscape.
PWD Sarawak also said that the bridge also plays an important role in improving connectivity between areas around Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol and Jalan Haji Mataim, while providing an alternative route to facilitate smoother traffic movement.
In addition to its transport function, the bridge is also equipped with pedestrian facilities, landscaping and decorative lighting at night, enhancing its appeal and contributing to Kuching’s city image.
“Hence, the recognition of the three records proves that infrastructure development can combine engineering excellence, innovation, functionality, aesthetic value and benefits to the community,” it said.
For the record, the bridge was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Aug 5, 2025 and named after his late wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, in recognition of her contributions to the community particularly in Satok.
