27-year-old Azmil Saripudin of Sabah, who took part in the 100km men’s category, told Sarawak Tribune about the difficulties he faced on the trail during his run.

“The trails were really difficult to deal with because it was slippery and muddy due to the rain since Saturday.

“Some of us fell and got hurt along the way. I got lost during the run as for everyone as well,” he said.

However, Azmil said he got to meet with other participants who supported each other and gave encouragement to push and not giving up.

“I get to meet with a lot of people here! It’s really interesting and fun because we are surrounded by supportive people.

“I did not expect to get first place in the 100km category and I’m happy.

“I have participated in many events such as this and I’m looking forward to join more,” said Azmil.

Also from Sabah, Nurul Hayati Osman, took part in the 100km women’s category, noting that the trail at Silabur is very challenging as compared to the ones in her home-state.

The 34-year-old woman also said this is her first time joining a trail run event in Sarawak.

“The trail here is a bit challenging, it’s not the same as the trails in Sabah,” she added.

“Comparatively, the trails in Sabah have more elevation, whereas here in Silabur, it’s more technical and very hardcore.”

She said she enjoyed the trail with scenic views where it leads to a few villages, and villagers came out to give support to the participants.

“Even the kids were watching us running up the trail,” she said.

The 32-year-old also mentioned that it was her second time participating in the trail run in Sarawak.

“Last year, I joined the 100km category. This time, I brought my friends to join in the trail runs.

“We have about 50 people from the Philippines with me because Sarawak is a nice place, and the people are very nice here.

“The race director, the organiser and even the volunteers are really nice and very responsive to our inquiries,” said Cabigas.

She also said that the weather in Sarawak is hotter than in the Philippines.

However, she said she enjoyed the trail even though there were challenges along the way.

“I really enjoyed my time here and looking forward to explore Kuching,” she enthused.
