KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a 34-year-old woman for a RM2,500 fine, and in default three months’ imprisonment today, for damaging her neighbour’s car.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan meted out the sentence on Asmida Pauzi after she pleaded guilty to the charge.
Asmida, who was unrepresented, admitted to committing the offence under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than five years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
According to the charge, she committed the offence at about 7.45 pm on March 23 at a house in Jalan Urat Mata here, by damaging the door and bonnet of a Perodua Kancil, causing losses estimated at RM1,460.
Based on the facts of the case, the complainant, a 52-year-old woman, discovered the damage to the vehicle at about 8 am on March 26 after being informed by her husband.
A neighbour later identified the accused as the person who had thrown stones at the car, resulting in the damage.
It was understood that the accused had been looking for her former husband over issues related to maintenance, and in the process, had damaged the neighbour’s vehicle.
The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin.
