Leaders must set a good example and serve as positive role models for society, especially the younger generation, who constantly observe the behaviour and speech of leaders.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said it has long been a practice in the country’s democratic system, including in Sarawak, for elected representatives to serve as the link between the government and the people.
“I would like to remind all honourable members to always uphold the sanctity and dignity of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, debate in a mature and responsible manner, and use proper and courteous language when expressing their views,” he said in his opening address at the first meeting of the fifth term of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
He said elected representatives must always remain close to the people in order to understand the pulse and real needs of the community so that the government can receive accurate feedback and ensure that every policy and development initiative truly benefits the rakyat.
“Let us continue working together to develop Sarawak into a progressive, prosperous, peaceful and respected region, without neglecting the values of unity, harmony, morality and strong ethics — the well-being of the people must always be prioritised.
“May Sarawak continue to be blessed with peace, stability and prosperity for the well-being of present and future generations,” he said.
