Bomba neutralises wasp nest at hardware premises

MIRI: Firefighters from Lutong sprang into action on Wednesday morning after a potentially dangerous wasp nest was discovered beneath a lorry at a busy hardware premises in Lutong.

The incident unfolded at Naga Hardware Machinery when the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 11.33 am from a member of the public identified as James.

A four-man team from Bomba Lutong was immediately dispatched to the scene aboard a Triton response vehicle led by operation commander PBK II (TBBK II) Stephen Saga.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an active wasp nest concealed beneath the lorry near one of its tyres, raising concerns over the safety of workers and customers at the premises.

The team swiftly carried out a risk assessment before moving in to neutralise the threat. Using insecticide spray, firefighters successfully destroyed the nest and safely removed it from the area.

The operation, which began shortly before noon, was brought under control without incident and completed within 20 minutes.

No injuries or damage to property were reported.

The swift response by the firefighters prevented the situation from escalating and ensured business activities at the premises continue safely.
