Land claimants have been urged to cooperate during field measurements to ensure the smooth implementation of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land surveys.

Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the success of land measurement efforts largely depends on the readiness of claimants to be present and actively participate on-site.

He said claimants must clearly mark their land boundaries and avoid disputes during the process to prevent delays.

“Measurement work in the field requires cooperation from claimants themselves.

“Their presence is important to ensure boundaries are properly identified and the process can proceed smoothly,” he said.

He was responding to Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee during Q&A session today.

Len Talif said a total of 11 areas in the Jepak constituency, covering about 8,333 acres, have been approved for perimeter survey under the New Initiative NCR Land Survey Programme.

Of these, eight areas covering 7,373 acres have been surveyed and gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserve (Agriculture) under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.

He added that the remaining three areas, covering 432 acres at KM15, Jalan Ulu Sebauh (Areas B, C and D), have yet to begin measurement as community leaders and claimants did not attend a roundtable session held in 2012.

“No feedback was received from the claimants in the area despite various efforts by the Land and Survey Department Bintulu Division, including contacting them through letters, phone calls and radio announcements,” he said.

Meanwhile, Len Talif said the state government has taken steps to speed up the process by increasing manpower capacity, including recruiting additional personnel and engaging private surveyors.

He added that ongoing studies are being carried out to identify more efficient surveying methods and technologies without compromising data accuracy.
