SIBURAN: A total of RM1.5 million has been approved under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) for the Mambong constituency to carry out various infrastructure development works in Kampung Sikog, Padawan.

Deputy Minister for Transport (Aviation and Road), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, said the allocation involves several key projects aimed at improving basic amenities and the well-being of villagers.

He said the projects include upgrading the Kampung Sikog Community Hall, constructing an agricultural road to Baan Gong Waterfall, implementing a treated water supply system in the Paas area, and upgrading internal village roads.

“It is hoped that the implementation of these projects will improve basic facilities as well as stimulate the socio-economic development of the local community,” he said.

Dr Jerip, who is the Mambong assemblyman, said this when officiating the Pre-Gawai Celebration 2026 organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Sikog at the Kampung Sikog Community Hall on Friday (May 15).

He added that the celebration, which takes place from May to June, reflects the importance of Gawai in the lives of the Dayak community in Sarawak.

He stressed that Gawai is not merely an annual festival, but a symbol of the rich culture and identity of the Dayak community that must be preserved by the younger generation.

“Gawai carries great meaning for all of us. It not only celebrates the harvest, but also strengthens unity and cultural heritage,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to the organising committee and villagers for their warm reception and strong spirit of unity ahead of the Gawai Dayak celebration.

At the same time, he urged villagers to continue cooperating with the government to ensure that all development projects can be implemented smoothly for the benefit of all.

He ended by calling on the community to maintain unity and harmony to support sustainable rural development.
