KUCHING: The Sarawak government has announced replacement public holidays following overlapping dates in the 2026 calendar.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki said the declaration was made in accordance with Section 5 of the Public Holidays Ordinance [Cap. 8 (1958 Ed.)], with the consent of the Head of State.

“As a result, June 3, 2026 has been declared a replacement public holiday for Wesak Day, which falls on May 31, 2026,” he said in a statement issued today.

He added that June 4, 2026 has also been declared a replacement public holiday for Gawai Dayak, which falls on the same date as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday on June 1, 2026.

The statement said the declaration serves as a substitute for the public holidays listed under the First Schedule of the Public Holidays Ordinance.
