KUCHING: An enforcement operation along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub here ended with 11 vehicles being seized, including a Mercedes-Benz SUV, as authorities moved against motorists flouting road regulations and using illegal HID or LED lights.
Codenamed Ops Motosikal/HID/LED, the Kuching Road Transport Department (RTD) Operations Unit carried out the operation on Monday (May 18), focusing on motorcycles and vehicles fitted with HID and LED lights that failed to comply with approved specifications.
Sarawak RTD Enforcement Division chief Fifi Suhesty Asmuni was also on site to oversee the enforcement exercise.
Throughout the operation, officers inspected 648 vehicles of various types and uncovered multiple offences such as driving without valid licences, use of non-compliant HID or LED lights, expired driving licences, and technical violations involving vehicle conditions and modifications.
Also seized were 11 vehicles comprising five motorcycles, one luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV), one pickup truck, three cars, and another car driven by a foreign national.
The department said the seizures were made for offences involving expired road tax, lack of insurance coverage, foreign drivers without valid driving licences, as well as extreme vehicle modifications.
Such operations will continue to be intensified to curb traffic offences and enhance road safety for all users.
