KUCHING: AirBorneo Airways Sdn Bhd (AirBorneo) has announced its full participation in FLYsiswa, the government-backed air travel subsidy initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT).
Designed to support higher education students traveling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, the FLYsiswa programme provides eligible students with a digital voucher worth RM400 to subsidise their domestic economy flight tickets.
In a statement today, AirBorneo said through the initiative, the airline aims to bridge geographic divides and ease the financial pressure faced by students attending public universities (UA), polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation colleges, and teacher education institutes (IPG).
“By leveraging AirBorneo’s expanding regional network and frequency of flights, students can now plan their trips home during semester breaks, festive seasons, and emergencies without the strain of high travel costs,” it said.
AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin said education requires focus, dedication and peace of mind.
“For many young Malaysians studying away from home, particularly between Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, the cost of flight tickets should never be an obstacle to spending quality time with family.
“Our participation in FLYsiswa reflects our deeply rooted obligation to community welfare,” he said.
Eligible Malaysian students enrolled in public higher education institutions can check their eligibility via the MOT’s official portal (subsidiudara.mot.gov.my) and redeem their RM400 FLYsiswa digital voucher directly when booking flights through AirBorneo’s official website and mobile application.
The voucher redemption period for AirBorneo flights starts from Aug 11 until Nov 30, 2026, with bookings valid for travel dates up to Dec 31, 2026.
