Local man held over suspected shop burglary in Miri

MIRI: A local man was arrested in connection with a suspected break-in at a shop in Phase 2, Jalan Lopeng By Pass, Miri, police said on Thursday (May 21).

The suspect was detained during an early morning operation conducted by officers from the Crime Prevention Branch of Miri Central Police Station.

Police said the arrest was made at about 12.30am behind the Petronas station at Jalan Bulan Sabit following intelligence gathered by investigators.

The operation was led by ASP Goldy Anak Jangan.

Items believed to be linked to the case, including clothing allegedly worn during the incident, were also seized for further investigation.

The suspect is being held at Miri Central Police Station to assist police inquiries.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which covers housebreaking and theft.

Police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information related to criminal activities in the district as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime in Miri.
