KUCHING: A 37-year-old local woman was arrested during roadblock operations conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at Jalan Tabuan here.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the operations were against drunk driving, which was carried out from 11:30 pm on May 20 until 3:30 am on May 21, involved a senior police officer and 11 personnel.

The woman underwent a breathalyser test using the SD2+ device, which recorded 186 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, exceeding the legal limit of 50 milligrammes.

She was brought to the Kuching District Police Headquarters for further investigation under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Alexson added that the operations were aimed at ensuring motorists do not drive under the influence of alcohol, which could endanger other road users and the drivers themselves.

Throughout the operations, police inspected 65 individuals and 62 vehicles, comprising 25 cars, 18 motorcycles, 13 four-wheel drive vehicles, and six MPVs.

Other than that, a total of 33 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.

He noted that such operations would continue from time to time to reduce road accidents caused by drunk driving and advised road users to always comply with traffic laws for everyone’s safety.
