KUCHING: Eleven men, including one teenager, were arrested in two separate assault cases reported here on Thursday (May 21).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the first incident occurred around 1.30 am along Jalan BDC when a man was attacked by a group of unidentified individuals armed with sticks and a baton while on his way home.
He said police later arrested seven local men aged between 21 and 33 and seized a baton believed used in the assault.
“Checks found one of the suspects has a previous criminal record, while urine tests on all suspects returned negative results,” he said.
In the second case, Alexson said a victim was assaulted by a group of men near Jalan Tabuan Hilir at about 7.28 am on the same day.
“The victim sustained injuries and is still receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital,” he said.
Police arrested four local men aged between 17 and 25 in connection with the case.
Checks found all four suspects have previous criminal records, while urine tests on them were negative.
Alexson said the Kuching Magistrate’s Court granted a four-day remand order against all suspects from both cases to facilitate investigations.
Both cases are being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Alexson also advised the public against taking matters into their own hands in ways that violate the law.
