KUCHING: Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are now one win away from lifting the Malaysia Masters crown after sweeping past fellow Malaysians Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik in straight sets at the Unifi Arena, Kuala Lumpur today (May 23).
Backed by growing confidence and relentless attacking rhythm, Sze Fei–Izzuddin took the all-Malaysian semi-final clash 21-18, 21-13 to book their place in the final on home soil.
The opening game began at a furious pace as both national pairs traded rapid drives, steep smashes and fast front-court exchanges in a battle fitting of two of Malaysia’s best men’s doubles combinations.
Aaron and Wooi Yik initially held firm, matching their compatriots point for point while trying to disrupt Sze Fei–Izzuddin’s attacking momentum.
But as the rallies grew longer, Sze Fei–Izzuddin slowly tightened their grip on the match.
Sharper interceptions at the net and cleaner attacking transitions eventually allowed the pair to edge ahead late in the first set before closing it 21-18.
Momentum then completely swung in their favour.
Growing increasingly comfortable, Sze Fei–Izzuddin dictated the pace of the second game while Aaron and Wooi Yik struggled through an unfortunate series of unforced errors.
The pressure gradually mounted on the Olympic bronze medallists as Sze Fei–Izzuddin continued unloading through aggressive attacking play and relentless front-court pressure.
Despite brief attempts to claw momentum back, Aaron and Wooi Yik were unable to halt the surge before Sze Fei–Izzuddin sealed the match in straight sets.
Awaiting the Malaysians in the final will be either compatriots Yap Roy King–Wan Arif Wan Junaidi or Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard–Daniel Lundgaard – with another all-Malaysian showdown still a possibility.
