KUCHING: Kuching City FC chairman, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to supporters, players and staff following the club’s heartbreaking Malaysia Cup final defeat to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) last night (May 23).

In an emotional Instagram post shared shortly after the final whistle, Fazzrudin, who is also the president of Football Association of Sarawak (FAS), thanked everyone who stood behind The Cats throughout their historic campaign while also apologising for falling short in the final at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

“To all supporters, players, coaching staff, management, crew members and everyone who stood with us throughout this journey, thank you from the bottom of my heart. We also apologise for this defeat,” he wrote.

Despite the disappointment, Fazzrudin stressed that the journey itself had already proven the spirit, sacrifice and fighting heart within the squad throughout the season.

“Tonight was not the ending we dreamed of, but the journey to the final proved the spirit, sacrifice and fighting heart of this team.

“In football, victory and defeat are part of the struggle. But the endless support from all of you has been our greatest victory,” he added.

The Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak also paid tribute to supporters across Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia who travelled and gathered for live screenings to support the club during their historic final run.

“Thank you as well to everyone who gathered for live screenings across Sarawak, and to those who travelled from Sarawak and across Peninsular Malaysia to Bukit Jalil. We are truly touched by your support,” he said.

Fazzrudin also reminded supporters that Kuching City’s journey was far from over despite the heartbreak of defeat.

“The fight is not over. We rise again,” he wrote.

The state club completed the most successful season in the club’s history after finishing runners-up in the Super League, securing qualification to the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) and reaching the Malaysia Cup final for the first time ever.
