BAU: The Serembu Gawai Bazaar is set to become an annual event to boost local economic activities and attract more visitors to the area.

Serembu assemblyman Datuk Miro Simuh said the event was organised to encourage local businesses to participate and attract visitors to Serembu.

Apart from that, he said the bazaar also helps promote and strengthen the local economy for participating vendors.

“We have about 20 vendors here and we hope the event will help improve the economy of the local community.

“However, heavy rain in Serembu tonight has resulted in fewer visitors. Hopefully, in the next two or three days, the weather will improve and more people will come,” he said.

He said this during his brief speech while officiating the Serembu Gawai Bazaar at the Serembu Waterfront on Sunday (May 24).

Apart from that, he also highlighted several upcoming events in the Serembu constituency this year, particularly the Siniawan Country Music Festival.

“Our biggest event this year is the Siniawan Country Music Festival, and we expect the festival to be held on a larger scale in September.

“As the festival is already included in the Sarawak events calendar, promotional activities will be intensified and we expect many visitors to attend the festival,” he said.

The assemblyman also announced that a Gawai Dayak open house will be held at the Serembu Cultural and Community Centre.

“We will also hold the Serembu Gawai open house on Jun 13.

“I hope the weather will be good during the event and that more people will come and enjoy celebrating Gawai together,” he said.
